The residents of Gaines Charter Township are served and protected by a state of the art fire department ; one stationis located in Dutton and the other in Cutlerville. The Dutton Fire Station covers the majority of Gaines Charter Township and the Cutlerville Fire Station covers a smaller, more populated area of the Township.
A Kent County Sheriff Sub-station is located in the Township office building, which is is located in the center of the Township. Gaines Charter Township contracts with the County Sheriff for three units to patrol our Township; two 24 hour (12AM-12PM), 365 days a year patrols and an additional 12 hour, 365 days a year patrol. In addition to the three patrol units, Gaines Charter Township contracts a 40 hour per week Community Outreach Officer.
